hey, I am looking to eliminate peaks and valleys from
audio files using a mac, I need some software that is really
easy to use and can help me take the audio files that I am
recording with a digital voice recorder from being really
loud at some points and really soft at others, to a
generally consistent tone, I understand that these are
peaks and valleys and I could really use some help and
advice as to how i might be able to work this out on a
mac...... any and all insights are greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much and have a beautiful day!Peace,
Teddy

This is called audio compression, or limiting, and most
mac audio editors have this ability..
For your purposes, there's a very full- featured open
source (free) audio editor called Audacity, that would fit
the bill..
There's also soundstudio which is simpler to use,, but the
creators of this app have decided to remove access to all
versions older than a few months, so this won't run on
anything earlier than Tiger..it's not free either..
The one I have used for years is soundedit16, which is the
simplest easiest to use of all the pro audio apps..
It's OS9 or classic only, and was not free either, and now
is long out of availability..
I'd recommend soundedit16, if you can find a
copy..otherwise do a google search for 'Audacity'..
Should be easy to find...
