Hi, I have a Power Macintosh G3, and I am using EarthLink DSL as my internet service provider. This problem has been going on several weeks now with no real help from EarthLink. Whenever I connect MacPoet, my computer will freeze and lock up in under 3 minutes of connecting (including the mouse pointer), and I am forced to reboot to regain control. In my attempts to fix this problem, I have tried 2 different DSL modems, 2 different ethernet cards, scanned for viruses, turned all but base (except for MacPoet) extensions off. I even went as far as to erase the hard drive and install only the OS and EarthLink software...none of which worked. After much time, energy, and money wasted, I finally figured out that if I block port 49152 (the port Earthlink uses to give me access to the internet) on my firewall before I connect, the computer will still freeze, but will come out of it after about 30 seconds, then I can unblock the port and use the internet normally. I never had this problem before, and I made no changes before it began that I can recall. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I'm not sure if this will help, but here is an example of an allowed access attempt to port 49152 by EarthLink as logged by my firewall: Date and time: 09/13/2004 10:57:40 PM Action: Access attempt ALLOWED Service: Internet Port: 49152 Mode: UDP IP address: 207.69.188.187 Host name: ns3.mindspring.com Any help would be appreciated.
