I have final got around to connecting my G5 to an amp via its optical out for sound. So I wire in my speakers and check it out and guess what... It seems Apple DVD Player cannot decode or even see DTS tracks.
I have the latest version of the OS, the latest version of DVD player and a DTS decoding 6.1 amp, is there an add on or a separate program I can use to play DVD's with a DTS audio track selected?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

:(
I am having the same problem. I can select the DTS track and
my sound system's DTS light actually does light up... but I
get absolutely no sound. Kind of sucks huh?

Hi Guys,
I am looking into this before I buy a MAC mini to use as a
DVD player, and it seems DTS tracks are not encoded as
stand alone PCM data on the DVD, or at least not by itself, so does not pass directly out without some sort of 'decoding'. There's not enough space on the DVD for both full audio formats. In speaking with a smart guy at the genious bar at the
local Buffalo, NY MAC store, he seems to think that todays
DVD players/burners in the computers are more reliant on
software (or firmware as in a simple stand alone DVD
player) to run, so in as such we need to find DVD software
that will do job of separating the digital info and output the
DTS track to the SPD/IF digital out...M Audio is about to get an email asking what is necessary
for their USB-SPD/IF digital adaptor to do this on a new
MAC mini (it has no SPD/IF out, nor does my lap, but I
hear the brand new MAC laps do). You may want to look into
software to do the same for your set-ups...Good luck... Joe
