Hello. I have OS X 10.1.5. It is running on
my 400mhz iMac with a slot-loading DVD
drive. I haven't played many DVDs on my
iMac, but when I purchased Lord of the
Rings and slipped it in there, the
computer waits about 15 seconds before
it slides the DVD out. I also have an
external ZIPcd650 burner by Iomega, if it
makes a difference... I have been able to
play the DVD on my iMac a couple days
ago, but this problem has been occuring
before that, and it started happening
again today. Any suggestions?

The slot loading DVD/CD drive will sometimes not
mount the disc on the spindle properly. As odd as
this may sound, the center holes on some DVD/
CD discs are a little tight and some holes are not
centered. It only takes a 1/16 error to prevent
loading. When I use to have trouble like this I put
the disk back in but all the way to the left, if this
fails then I put it in all the way to the right.
Eventually you will here a click when the cd pops
in place. It will then works. I don't have the
problem anymore as I pulled the drive out and
tweaked it. Powerbook slot loader.
