I have several(23) 8mm tapes taken with a Sony camera recorder. I would like to convert these to DVD disc. How do I go about converting these 8mm movie tapes ? What software/ hardware will I need? Thank you for your input. Richard Jones.

hardware:
1. your camera recorder
2. a DVD-RAM drive
3. a computer with a lot of harddrive space. 4. either an AV mac (or beige power mac g3) or a video card for your mac that has either typical audio/video ins or an s-video in cable (depending on your camcorder. you might even try an imoega "buz" (http://www.iomega.com) or an xlr8 "interview" (http://www.xlr8.com)
software: 1. depends on how hardcore you want to go with the editing of these tapes. imovie is great for novices. adobe premier is a lot better, but has a steeper learning curve. avid cinema is nice, but has just as steep (if not steeper) curve. i haven't tried strata video shop, but that's another option.
2. i guess toast, to burn the DVD, although i'm not sure, as my brother's g4 didn't come with DVD burning software.
how do i burn DVD's and what software will i need to do this.

You actually need to buy a DVD burner as the format of a DVD is seven times as dense as that of a regular CD. Software will come with the DVD burner but it will set you back well over $2k.
