Subject: DVD and CD burning trouble in TigerOS: OS X 10.4.1CPU/Ram: G4 1.67/ 512mb |
Comment: Greetings. I am having various problems using my superdrive on my new G4 powerbook. Copying DVDs, using the Disk Utility, is VERY SLOW. It seems to take almost an hour to copy one disk. I'm here w/ a friend who has a Power Mac G5, dual 2.7, and it also takes a very long time on his. Also, I have not been able to burn any CDs. I get an error about calibrating the laser to the media. I've tried a couple of different brands. I called Apple, and they say they only officially support their CD-Rs, and that I should keep trying until I find a brand that works. Are they for real? Any advice on this is welcome.

Reply: (edit)How do you have a Dell Running OS X 10.4.1? Have you tried a new user? What is the result there?

Reply: (edit)Don't why it came out as Dell! I'm on a Powerbook G4, 1.67ghz. 512mb of ram. I read up on another Mac forum that the new Matsuhita drives that come /w the powerbooks are very, very picky as far as media is concerned (i.e., very crappy). Most brands of DVD will only burn at 2x, and a lot of CDRs aren't accepted at all. Anyone else have problems like this?
