Comment: Now I updated 10.3.2 on my G4 933 (which used to happily boot into OS922) she refuses to boot OS922 from any previously bootable disk, including the original OS9 install disk it had when brand new, nor will it accept and boot from the OS9 partition on a Norton Systemworks 3 disk. Has the Jaguar update monkeyed around with my firmware and made it like the new macs - "OS9 booting forbidden". If anyone ever gets to the root of this problem I sure would like to know!

Reply: (edit)Aw, man, did you do a firmware update? I would just bet that's what did it... It is indeed possible that the Jag install did that too, although i don't know myself ( I will not install OS-X on my G3...period). You might want to try backing up all your files on a different drive, and completely formatting the drive, and then try the OS9 disk..it is just possible there's a hidden file in jaguar that might stop 9.22 from loading.(it's just a guess, however) I guess how much you try depends on just how much you really like Classic OS...for me, despite the fact that it is actually a really really slow OS compared to, say ,well... everything else, i still much prefer it, so i'd try everything. I have no idea how to reverse a firmware update, but i hear it can be done...i may have to try reversing one too if i want to put a g4 chip in my B&W... Best bet is to look around if there's ways to restore the old firmware....if the previous suggestion doesn't work.....

Reply: (edit)hey Dominicus, thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure reloading everything to a differnet or formatted disk isn't going to do it though as I have two bootable internal drives, the OS9 bootable CD and a Norton bootable CD and she won't boot off any of them. A hidden jaguar file on HD after udate I could believe but the CDs can't have any such on them and they don't boot either. So it may well be the firmaware has been updated - even though I didn't ask it to be updated. perhaps somoen know for sure whether a Jaguar update also updates firmaware (without end user know its happening). Reverse the firmware, hmmmn sounds like an idea but now I need to find someone who can tell me how to do that . . . Thanks Steve

Reply: (edit)the answer is no, jaguar does not update the firmware w/o you knowing. that is the reason it says in the license agreement "UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE" (mostly pertaining to slot-load iMacs)
