Comment:

I'd like to set up a dual-monitor workstation. I have two 17" VGA CRTs, a PowerMac G4 and a PowerMac G5. The video card in each Mac supports a single display. Can I simply take the video card from the G4 and put it in the G5?

(The G4 has an ATI Rage 128 Pro Graphics card that occupies a 2X AGP slot, and the G5 has a 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra card that fits in an 8X AGP Pro slot.)

Thanks in advance for any advice that saves me from screwing up my machine.

Hi David, unless your Mac has two AGP ports, (and it probably won't) you will not be able to do this.

The other alternative is to buy a Mac compatible PCI card as I assume you should have a spare PCI slot in the G5. However, this can be expensive.

Does your G5 not have mirroring for two monitors? Even my older eMac has this capability although an adapter is needed. let me know what model of G5 it is, or look it up on the apple site and see if it says anything about mirroring displays.

Regards,
Kyomii
