Hi. I'm using an Alcatel Speed Touch
Home external ethernet modem. The
software, EnterNet 300, my ISP requires I
use to connect to the internet is
incompatible with OSX. How do I
configure the PPPoE client in OSX so that
I may connect without using Enternet 300?
Thanks.

If you figure that one out, I'd love to know, because I can't find any US drivers for the Alcatel SpeedTouch series myself. If you have 'em, let me know...

The quick and easy (but not free) answer is to get a hardware router (Linksys, Netgear, Asante...most all of them will do PPPoE). Plus, you get a firewall and the ability to easily share your internet connection with another machine.

Yeah, it's not as cool as finding an answer to your issue, but it is a viable solution.

Except that won't work in this case, because the DSL modem is USB-only, so you can't hook it up to a router. I HATE USB-based DSL and cable modems.

Actually, I seem to remember seeing one
router (maybe an Asante) that could
connect to a USB modem. That was a
while ago, though, so they may not be
around anymore.

osx does not require 3rd party software to connect to dsl. its already built into system. go to system prefs and then click on networking. check applicable options there depending weather you pppoe or static.

Jesus, you'd think people would stop pretending they know it all and just answer the question.

OS X has a built-in PPPoE client, yes.

That doesn't do anybody any good if the DSL modem uses a USB connection and there aren't any ****ing drivers for the modem...

I am using an Alcatel SpeedTouch USB
modem. In order for it to configure to my
ISP I had to download the "Netherlands"
driver so that it had the proper VCI and
VPI configurations. You might try
downloading the different drivers and see
if one of them will work with your system.

In Europe we have face Thomson/Alcatel's
absence of reaction to the claim that the driver for
the SpeedTouch USB wouldn't install on jaguar.

I bit the bullit and started to write a driver.
Fortunately my still empty driver project did not
install with exactly the same error as Alcatel's one
and within an hour I found the fix to my driver.
Then thought I could fix Alcatel's the same way,
and it worked !!
Details in English here:

A french patched kit is available here:
