There really is no such thing as "Mac format" or "PC format". The formats are for each individual imaging program you are using. If you are trying to transfer files, try to find a format that is readable by both programs. Almost every image editor can read JPEG, GIF, and BMP files, but not all (especially not Adobe shareware !) can save as these formats.

I beg to differ. I was going through the
same dilemma until I realized that mac
images were slightly different to pc
images which then only allowed me to
open them in windows imaging. I thought
it was the file extensions - I was wrong. It had to do with the macintosh's manner
of saving the basic binary code...I am rambling. See if you can find a
program caled Drop Image.I am using Drop Image 2.5 and it does
the job well. Drag, drop and save as. (I
think you may have to type extensions)
and for some strange reason my win@k
Compaq sees them as images.

It depends on what type of image you are trying to read on the pc. If you save a file on the mac, you must also include the appropriate file extension otherwise the pc will not recognise the file at all. Also, as you save the images, a second dialogue box usually comes up (depending again on file format and image editing program you are using) which most often gives you the opportunity to save for mac or pc version if a distinction is required.

All of the above. Most file formats are cross platform like jpef, tiff, bmp etc. Some are not, like an .exe file which can only be viewed on a PC. The mother of all applications for this is Adobe Photoshop which is quite costly and complicated for most users. There are many freeware programs that will work nicely with one or more of these formats. I work in publishing and have to deal with these cross platform issues on a daily basis. In general, a Mac can discern a file format without a suffix (like .jpg,.bmp,.tiff etc.) while a PC needs to be told what it's dealing with.
