I got a G4 tower without a superdrive about a year ago. Now I want to add a dvd burner, but according to LaCie, all their fine products, while they will burn any dvd you can name, will not PLAY copyrighted dvds. Mac was unable to confirm this (!), and I want to know if anyone out there has experience that confirms or denies LaCie's claim. The price difference is about $250 for an 8X LaCie drive, versus $600 for an installed 4X superdrive.

Go with an internal drive, the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR -107D it works with +- R/RW, it is 8X and it is recognized as a Superdrive. Many programs such as iDVD will usually only work on a Superdrive. I found mine on sale at the local C...USA for about $150. Very easy to install. I have a mirror door G4, and it required me to take the front edge of tray off, but it just popped right off. It plays copywrited DVD's just fine. Good Luck.
