Comment:

a regularly used imac at work has
suddenly started to display a diskette icon
on startup in os 9.0.4

i have unplugged the usb diskette drive
so there is only the keyboard/mouse &
network cable

the process is as follows:

1. power up imac
2. screen goes dark grey for approx 1 min
3. screen goes light grey & displays a
functional cursor
4. diskettte icon appears & flashes
approx 3 times
5. smiley face appears on diskette
6. imac boots as normal

i have opened control panel and gone to
startup disk and the one highlighted is
the hard disk and not the network disk

the cd-rom does not work, as of yet i have
not replaced it but will try that to see if that
is causing the problem

i will also try nortons networked from
another imac

any other suggestions would be realy
appreciated

thankyou

Reply:

Zap the PRAM and reselect the hard disk in the control panel.

Also, upgrade to 9.2.2.
