Comment: I want to find out how to establish a dial up connection with a MAC. I know how to do this on a PC but am lost on the MAC. The machine I am attempting this on is a PowerPC running OS 7.55. In W95 there is "Dialup Networking" is there something simular on the PowerPC?

Reply: (edit)you can use open transport PPP and TCP/IP on a mac running system 7.5.5 to establish a dial up connection. If you use a higher OS, like 8.1 or 8.6 then you can use Remote access.

Reply: (edit)Hi there, first suck the freeware FreePPP from the net if you won´t use OpenTransport PPP. Then: open in the Apple-menu > Controlpanels there is a panel TCP/IP . On top there is a dropdown-menu there select PPP. Save settings and restart. Open FreePPP and do the little things (include phonenumber and give a name to the thing, save etc..)it should work. Bob

Reply: (edit)OK, here's the latest. The owner of this PowerPC wanted to upgrade the OS to OS9 which I just did. I am now getting the following error when attempting to use "Remote Access" 'There is another program using the modem like a Fax program or Modem Configuration' I've tried to check and see if there is something else using the modem, but I don't know if I'm doing that right. How do you tell on a Mac, what else is running? (I'm used to a PC where you can pull up a Task Manager and see what else is currently running but I can't find anything like that on the Mac). Any suggestions?
