A friend who has an Imac just called me
on the phone and told me her desktop is
totally black...totally. I could hear a chime
when she tried to boot it, but all she has
is a totally black desktop. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Is it a flat panel or a G3 iMac?

If it has a video out, try connecting a known working monitor to it and see if it works.

There are some cases in which installing
certain Mac OS X versions or firmware
"fries" the motherboard of certain
imacs...or so I've read at apple's
knowledgebase

If this is the case you should check them
out for help

Hope it isn't ;)

Search these boards for "firmware update" and that'll find what you need.
