Comment: I have a client who wants to share his brand new Dell Flat Panel monitor with both his new Dell CPU and his old PowerMac 8500. I'm investigating Monitor Switchers for him but have no idea if that monitor is at all compatible with a Mac, even if I can get all the connections to fit. Has anyone dealt with this yet? Any suggestions? Thanks for your help! -Peggy

Reply: (edit)The 8500 can use a simple Mac-VGA monitor adapter (should be available at Circuit City or the like, or online) that costs about $10. Alternatively, now might be a good time to spend a little on an ATI Rage 128 PCI card, because it'll be a lot better than the built-in video and has a VGA plug built into it, so you don't need an adapter. p

Reply: (edit)Just a follow up in case anyone's reading this. This particular monitor will not work with the Macs. (I tried it myself.) Apparently the Flat Panel requires software on the computer in order to work properly and Dell doesn't (or not yet, anyway) make it for the Mac. Thanks for the help anyway. -Peggy

Reply: (edit)Somehow, I really really doubt that the monitor needs software to work. What is the native resolution of the monitor? What resolutions are you able to drive through the VGA adapter? My guess is these don't match up. p
