Is there any way at all to change the default video playing software from Quicktime to something else (preferably VLC player) on my brand new Macbook? For example, I would like for my movies to play on VLC when I use the remote to select a movie to play. Is this possible, or am I stuck with the Apple mainstay Quicktime?

Really easy to do.

Go to the video file you want to change and right click it and choose "get info"

At the bottom of that dialogue box you'll see "open with" drop down the box and choose vlc.

Then click on "change all" just below that.

Now you are done.

Do that for every format which you want another player to handle other than quicktime.

Tell us how you did.

Cheers.

That works for when I double click on a video icon, but not when I select the movie with the remote in the media center screen.
