My friend's powerbook screen went out one day. He thought that the cable connecting the screen got cut due to the hinge breaking. When I pulled it apart, I found that the cable was damaged, but not cut. What happens is when it boots up the backlight comes on for about a second, then goes off, and nothing else shows up. There is all of the normal "Mac" noises. And when I hooked up an external monitor, that comes on. But it is like the desktop is extended onto the second (external) monitor. He doesn't want to spend the money on an lcd, but still wants to use the computer. Can I do something to set up the display properties to use only the external monitor? I tried to push all function keys while holding the "fn" key but nothing changes. The stupid thing just beeps. I have another, newer macbook pro that when you connect the external, the desktop defaults to mirror. So the external has everything on it.
Any body know what I mean?

Old stuff that still works, somewhat....
