lately when ive been using photoshop6,
ive been getting an error message when i
try to open a lfile ive been working on, ive
alotted alot of memory to the
program...thats not it.....
the error message says "the file is
damaged due to a disc error, possible
causes are defective disc drive, defective
disc drive cable or incorrect peripheral
cable termination. Some pixels in the
document may be invalid. Open
anyways?"
when i open it, the image is screwed up
in some areas..
....once i open the file there is
somthing wrong with it visually and it
prints out that way....does anyone know
what this may be? i recently put in a new
hard drive (maxtor), the other is on the
desktop, but that system folder is in the
trash...help.

Run a disk repair program on your drive and check it for errors. If it finds any, fix them and see if the problem goes away.

Might be a corrupted file. Are any other files giving that error?

fine...then the next time i open those files
the error message appears....and it
sometimes doesnt appear the next
time..it's on and off..and can happen to
any file in photoshop....ive noticed it
mainly in large files....as well photoshop

Check your preferences to see which volume Photoshop is using as "scratch disk". I've had this problem before with much older versions of Photoshop, and it was trying to save scratch files to a volume that was almost full.

Hope this works.

You could try reading the Photoshop manual, which describes the prefs in great detail...

Luc,

I just checked on a PC (not a Mac) that has Photoshop 5. The preference to look for can be reached through the following menu:

File -> Preferences -> Plug-ins & Scratch Disks.

At least that's how it is on the PC, the Mac should be very similar.

This means Photoshop is using the
startup disk for saving temporary files.
What you need to check is: Does your
startup volume have lots of free space?

If not, try changing the first scratch disk to
another hard disk or volume that DOES
have lots of free room.
