createrange function in ie5.x for mac

How can I get the current courser position and a selected text from a textarea in internet explorer for mac ver.5.0! The problem is internet explorer for mac doesn´t support the createrange() function which is a jscript! So which function can I take for ie for mac! Thank you for every little help!
