I am in the process of getting a friend who previously used a mac used to her new PC. I have successfully transferred the text files, but I am stuck with the ClarisWorks files. I know that there is a program out there called Conversions Plus that can supposedly do this, but we don't really want to pay for a program just for a one-time thing. Does anyone know of any shareware/freeware that can do the job?

If your version of claris works is 4.0 or 5.0, you should be able to save the files in rtf format for translation by most PC word processors. Another option is to buy claris works 5, which comes with both the mac and pc versions on the same disk (though apple doesn't tell you this on the box and does sell the same cd as separate versions). Put the sw on both computers and not only will you have file compatibility in all components of works, but your friend won't have to learn a new program.

We do this all the time with great success--in fact, Claris Works is one of the few programs I've found where the Windows and Mac versions of the program read each other's files almost flawlessly. You will need to either rename the Mac file with a ".CWK" extension to get Windows to open it in Claris Works, or open the Windows version first, and use the open command in the file menu to open the Mac file.

Good luck!

Hi! I have a PC and old ClarisWorks 2.0 files on MACdiskettes. I need to get these tranformed to PC. How do I get my PC to accept MACdiskettes? Is there any shareware for that?

Then I need to transform the files to - textfiles? I do not have ClarisWorks on PC. Is there any demo version that will due?
Thanks in advance!

I've just converted Clarisworks 2 documents for use on a PC using a shareware programme called TransMac, available from http://download.cnet.com
They can then be read with later version of Clarisworks, and then saved in a Word 97 format.
