Connecting a microphone to an iBook

The iBook has no internal mike. OS9.0 has lots of cool speech functions that I'd love to use. How can I connect a mike to the iBook? There is to "regular" mike port. There is of course a USB port, but as of yet, I am not aware of a USB-type mike. I can get a USB-to-serial adapter, but are there "serial" jack mikes?
