Help! I have a problem that even Comcast themselves cannot figure out! I am in the final stages of registering online for Comcast High Speed Internet Service. I have gone through hours of on-the-phone help with their management team and their top troubleshooting department. No one knows what they are doing! ;-( They already have in their system my cable modem, its MAC address, and the serial number. They even tried to rebuild my account and start from scratch. They gave me a proxy to use when going through the registration process, and that was http://sas.se1.attbb.net . From there, you go into Explorer (or other web browser) and key in the same address. http://sas.se1.attbb.net . I have gone through the screens of entering my account number and the confirmation number. From there, I get a screen that asks me to verify the personal information that they have. I verify that it is corrct. From there, I get a screen that once and for all asks me if I am sure that I want to officially sign up for the service. I click YES . . . and that is where everything stops. This is our problem! (Oh, by the way, I am doing this message from a library computer . . . obviously not my house.) In the status bar at the bottom of the screen it freezes on "Contacting oai.comcast.net". About 30 seconds later, an error screen pops up saying that there is an error with the connection or it has timed out. Hello!? One person that I spoke with at Comcast thinks it is my cable modem. Well, this is the second one that I have tried, and it still does the same thing. I have updated Comcast with the new MAC address and serial number for the modem. Still the same. I have also attempted to go to the site and take out the proxy server. It still works, of couse. Actually, I have never used a proxy server with the Comcast service. I have heard they actually try to slow speed down sometimes. Don't use their "software" or proxy servers. It all will still work. I have Comcast service at my second house, so I am very familiar with all of this. This problem is just rediculous! No one knows what the problem is! This is the last step I have to take! I have to get past this screen! Obviously I am making a good connection to the internet because I get to the first few screens. All the lights on the modem are correct. Please help me! IF you can, please email me at "in2macs@comcast.net" with your posting (or just send me a copy). I would much like to be alerted when someone has posted something. Thanks so much, and God bless you for helping me with the rediculous bump in the road! ;-)
Chris

Chris, I am having the exact same
problem on Mac OS 9. Comcast doesn't
know how to fix it. And I found numerous
listings on the Internet for the very same
problem involving Comcast and Mac OS 9
or Mac OS X. I *did* notice that a clean
install of Mac OS 9 didn't install any of the
old ethernet extensions. (I suppose
those aren't needed??) Anyway, I have
tried everything. I even connected a
Windows-based PC to it -- it worked
perfectly. I'm with you, Chris; I have no
idea on this one. It *should* work fine... If
you find out what the problem is, PLEASE
email me.Thanks a million,
Peter

You can register your cable modem on another computer, comcast isn't really computer specific. once the modem is registered your mac should surf just fine as long as you remove the proxies.
