After pushing out some images I created using Disk Copy to identical G4 Macs, none of my aliases work under the apple menu. I also lose all my desktop printers, and my date and time gets changed. It can be a real hassle to have to fix all these little things when using images to clone a bunch of Macs. Is there anything I can do to prevent all my aliases from breaking? Specs are OS 9.2 on G4 400 Macs.
Rob

step 1: boot from OS9 CD
step 2: use the disk copy utility to make a disk image of my system partition.
step 3: save the disk image to a 2nd partition on the same drive
step 4: boot back into OS9
step 5: burn the image to a CD-ROM
step 6: boot from a zip disk with OS9 on it (on a different Mac with the exact same specs)
step 7: Initialize hard drive with the same partition structure os the orignal Mac that I created the image on (system-6GB, Scratch-8GB, Data1-4.8GB, Data2-4.8GB)
step 8: Mount the image on the CD-ROM
step 9: Copy all the files from the image to the system partition
step 10: reboot
step 11: boot from my new system partition
step 12: here is where my problem starts. my alaises I made under the start menu no longer work. my data & time is incorrect. all my desktop printers are gone or have the wrong printer description file attached to it.Anyone have any suggestions? bobsyouruncle, if you still don't understand my problem, you are the one who doesn't understand what they are talking about. Please only respond if you have something intellegent to say.
Thank-you,
Rob

Hi Rob -
I have successfully done exactly what it is you're trying to do. The kicker here is that I did it using the same steps you listed. I don't see anything wrong there, nor can I come to any logical conclusion as to why your Apple Menu Aliases don't work. I guess my advice would be to try again if you haven't already done so. Maybe it was just a "fluke" ?? Also... Check on the original machine that you're trying to clone and make sure that the aliases do in fact work on that machine. I know its a simple thing, but those are sometimes the easiest to overlook. Sorry I don't have any better info for you. Regarding the desktop printers that aren't showing up from the image- my advice is to not use desktop printers. I've seen lots of problems with them, and they just use up memory running on the desktop.
oh and by the way - "bobsyouruncle" - you need to relax. your reply was not only rude, but was also uncalled for. Rob's original post made plenty of sense.
