cdrom only plays data, not music

Help..I intalled an exact replacement internal cdrom unit and it AND my external scsi cdr burner ONLY play data disc, and the machine freezes when I try to play any music discs..HELP!! Thanks!

I'm running OS9.2.2 on my Beige MiniTower The CDROM unit is a 24x ATAPI Matsus---a(Panasonic) model CR-585-B---with driver 1.4.7----HELP!! Thanks!
