Sure,
Try a LACIE brand external. They work well as they can perform using USB 2.0 (TIger) or firewire. Youll need some software to make it functional in OS9 but Lacie usually supplies it with the retail drive - look to spend about 120 to 150$. I have a Dual LAyer LAcie firewire/usb external drive and it works wonders, especially in OS X.

depends what you mean by 'work' in OS 9. it's a loose term.
in other words, what applications do you want it to work
with?
