CD Writer for Mac - compatible?

Hello and thanks in advance for considering my question!
I have an iMac 333mHz running OSX 10.2. It came with Mac CD-burning software, iPod, and all the usual. Its built-in optical drive is not a burner, so I purchased and attached an external burner (RetailPlus WriterPlus USB 2.0 CD-RW CD writer) via USB. The system recognizes the device as a drive but not as a burner. RetailPlus's support dept. tells me that it should work with no additional driver software needed, as long as my machine contains CD-burning software, which it does. The MAC site (as I now notice) has a listing of proven-compatible external and internal burners, and mine is not on it. Any ideas?

Thanks for the advice!
Actually, on a whim I downloaded an available operating system update for my Mac, upgrading it to OS 10.2.8. I had read that the update included expanded USB device support. And voila, the little iMac now recognizes my drive as a Mitsumi CR-487ETE, and it reads and writes just fine.
