I have a g3 333 imac w/a tray loading
cd-rom drive. Neither data nor audio cds
that I burn on any mac will read from the
cd-rom drive - it invites me to initialize.
Audio & software cds work fine, as do
most cds burned on others' computers.
Please help!

Just to clarify....

CDs you burn on other Macs don't work.

CDs burned on PCs work fine.

Right?

I still need to test CDs burned on PCs.
but I did find that CDs burned a long time
ago, when we used the old 4x gold
imation cds, read fine. So the next test is
to find gold cds to do more tests.

thanks

It's really hard to say what's going on, but when I've had similar trouble , I burned at a slower speed and that fixed things. Trial & error method.
For example, I've used (48X) CD R media because I can burn audio at 48X with my LaCie firewire drive, but the CD ROM drives in my iBook and iMac won't read them. I reduced burn speed (Using Toast, by the way) to 16X just to be safe, and that took care of it.

Sounds like a media problem to me. Use quality, name-brand media, and you likely won't have such an issue.

Sounds like a media issue to me.

Burn at slower speeds - 8x max for best CD-R life - and use quality media (Kodak, Sony, Maxell, other major brands) and your problems will likely disappear.
