Subject: CD drive won't open...
OS: 9.2
CPU/Ram: 800 mhz
Comment:
I have a Flat Screen iMac [flat screen sitting on a white hemisphere) running OS 9.2. I shut it down before I went on vaca and when I got home yesterday, I started it up only to find a blue screen and that the the "hard drive" has disappeared. I went to boot from the CD but realized that I could not open the CD drive. There isn't any little hole to poke. However, there is a tiny little hole on the flat screen monitor in the corner but that didn't work and of course the botton on the keyboard doesn't work either. I am assuming that once I get the computer booted from the CD then I will be able to get into the system folder and hopefully solve my other problem. Thanks for any help!

Lol! You tried to stab the microphone with a paper clip. LOL!

Actually the CD-ROM does have a paperclip hole. Pull down the flap that is over the cdrom drive and you'll find the eject button and paperclip hole.

OK...I did make a fool of myself - but that won't be the last time...I can promise you that. In the meantime...I pulled down the flap (never realized that I could) and I can't find the paperclip hole. I have poked and prodded with flashlight in hand - trying not to miss anything and I am still lost. Could you give me a few clues....THANKS!!!!!!

This may also be a silly question... is there a disc already in
the drive?

Otherwise, the manual eject hole should be directly under
the tray when you open the CD door.

Also, try holding the down the Shift key on restart and load
without the extensions... it may just be an extension conflict
and this should mount up the desktop and allow you to eject
the CD from there.

Try holding down the mouse button just after the bell, while booting. This is the iMac's equivalent to the paperclip hole.
