Cant surf net thru internet sharing

My friends have set up internet sharing with WinXP and are using a router for interconnectivity (and the point of connection to internet is thru one of the PC with a dsl modem). i have tried connecting to their PCs through the router and am successful in transfering files. but i cannot surf the internet. tried safari, netscape and ie. do i need to make any changes to any configuration and where do i make them? am using OS 10.2.6
