Comment: Is there a extension I need to run avi files. I have the newest quicktime and windows media player. Whenever I try to open them I get a message saying there is a docompressor I need but it is not on the quicktime site. Thanks

Reply: (edit)AVI files tend to be reliant on a specific 'codec' file (compressor/decompressor) to play. When they are created or saved out they still retain the need to have the proper codec for playback installed on the users machine. I don't know how to figure out WHICH codec you may need for any particular file that won't play. There are MANY codecs to be had. Good hunting.

Reply: (edit)when you open up the player, get the movie information, go to video track and it will tell you which codec it is using..

Reply: (edit)i think that you need to download a divx cache programme. www.divx.com. that will allow you to use files like avi with media player.
