Is there a extension I need to run avi files.
I have the newest quicktime and windows
media player. Whenever I try to open
them I get a message saying there is a
docompressor I need but it is not on the
quicktime site.

Thanks

AVI files tend to be reliant on a specific
'codec' file (compressor/decompressor)
to play. When they are created or saved
out they still retain the need to have the
proper codec for playback installed on the
users machine. I don't know how to figure
out WHICH codec you may need for any
particular file that won't play. There are
MANY codecs to be had. Good hunting.

when you open up the player, get the
movie information, go to video track and it
will tell you which codec it is using..

Hey, I found out which Decoder I need. Now, where does one go to find the codec?

Thanks!

Apple has the last three or four codecs on their Web site. Check the software updates section.

i think that you need to download a divx cache programme. www.divx.com. that will allow you to use files like avi with media player.
