Can't open files put on ext drive!

Recently plugged in a Lacie 2.0 USB 80GB drive. Have been using copyagent to copy files from my HD over to the external. I had a file get messed up and went to the ext to get the back up copy which I can see and drag to the desktop but when I try to open it I get "The file is being used by system software. It cannot be opened.". I have file sharing off and print sharing off and dave sharing off. No apps are open except finder and copy agent is not running. Any ideas? Thanks
