Can't boot Imac G3 350mhz

I put a replacement 6GB disk in my imac. I know the drive is good and has a 9.2.2 system folder on it. No other drive or any OS CD will boot. The disk whirls at startup time and then the ? and folder appear on the screen.
I can do firmware commands and have done the resets including the reset button.
Do the cables go bad or perhaps main board went bad?
