hi there!
my problem is that my g3 won't boot from cd. i tried starting by pressing the cd-button only and by pressing the cd-button and selecting the cd as a start volume.. everytime the old OS 8.5 witch is installed on the hard disk was started... does anybody have an idea how to fit this problem?i want to initialize my hard disk and the only possibility to boot then is from cd? thanks, ohle

What CD are you trying to boot from? The one that came with your G3?
If not, is it a retail version of the Mac OS, or did it come with a different Mac?

Yeah, but it won't work on your G3 because your G3 is not your iBook.

Somewhat related...When you figure this one out... PLEASE let me know. I'm having the same problem but I AM using the C key...
My G3 Mac won't boot [while holding the C key] using any of the following CD ROMs, Mac OS 8 disk, Mac OS X, Norton Utilities [incidentally, the program that crashed my hard drive in the first place], NOR will it boot from ANY rescue disk in the Zip drive...
The Mac will ONLY boot using an old 2.1.1 version of TechTool Pro CD... But that program wouldn't fix my problem. ANY clues?
Thanks,
Michael
PS: I have reset the PRAM on the machine as well...

Try disconnecting the hard disk and see if it will boot then. If it works, you might have a bad hard drive.
