I've been looking at the next windows longhorn and im pretty bored as OS X looks more my preference and its been avalible for years. Also Tiger looks good too. So I've decided im gonna buy a second hand iMac.

What sort of spec would be the equivelent to a 800MHz 256MB Pc? Its the sorta spec that can run the latest OS, do everyting in a good speed like picture editing, web browsing and web design (maybe even the odd game). I know is comparing oranges and apples but you get the idea.

Thanks,
Hais

1st... WTF is wrong w/ you!!!! linux sukka

ok now to your question
a G3/1MBCache w/ 256 MB RAM would be comprable...
OSX is great but if you plan on gaming, forget it

for work its great, ease of use is really no different than any windows xp box.

software is WAY cheaper for windows boxes and so is hardware and service packs are free LOL

ok i'm done

thanks for your help- i think?!

I allready have a gd pc for games and stuff other than work but the rest of my family use it too. I wanted a mac just for work.
G3's seem to range between 233-500MHz so i'll probably go for the 500mhz just to be safe!!

Hi, if you're getting a mac, get at least a G4 600 mhz. The
newest software (ie: iChat AV, Garageband, etc..) is
starting to require it. Plus you get the coolest features:
fast user switching, etc.. that way. For gaming, the higher
you mhz the more you can do. Most of the major titles are
available for mac, you can find them online and the Apple
Store or several other websites.

The prices for mac software are equivalent to PC and
some is the hardware. Some seem to think it's more
expensive, but Apple only makes top quality stuff. You will
be getting what you pay for, they don't have second rate
Macs. Macs are fantastic for any design work you may be
doing, they avoid many issues that PCs are still stilling
trying to deal with (fonts issues is a good example).

Hope this helps.
