Hi, I need advice about buying my first mac. I need to learn things on other systems. I want to get the ibook, the price seems reasonable. However, I'm thinking of either trading in my Gateway PC and get the powermac g4, or keep the pc and still get the g4, thus using the pc in a server type role/ primary firewall unit.
I need to know what to expect from the os and other software as well as the hardware. How easy is it to upgrade the ibook/g4? I've also got an -- ide/atapi dvd/cdrw drive (LG brand), would this work in the g4?
Any advice welcome, thank you.

>> Mike, the site was of great help, thanks alot.
>> the pickle, I'm real close to the apple store, about 2 miles. I spent about 2 hrs talking with a really good apple sales rep/techie, I was just curious about other peoples experiences with macs. I won't be deterred, I will get a mac. It would be nice to know what the users had to say.
Thanks.

Reason I told you to go to the Apple Store was the folks there *are* Mac users, and it's a lot easier to have a useful dialog with them about it than it is to do the same with someone on a message board like this ;)

That, and I usually sound like an Apple Store employee anyway.
