I have a G3-400 Power Book and there is one expansion slot for a DVD or Zip Drive. My DVD drive broke and right now i only have the zip drive available. Does anyone know if i can hook-up an external DVD drive and still be able to boot and restore my system with it? or can i somehow copy the files from the cd to a zip disk and boot from that instead?

You didn't say if you have a Lombard or Pismo (don't worry, most people who aren't Mac geeks don't know the difference either), but if you have a Pismo, you can boot from an external FireWire hard disk or CD unit. If you have a Lombard, you still have SCSI, so you can use an external SCSI CD-ROM drive (or HD) to boot.

Booting off a Zip disk should work fine too.
