It shouldn't matter if you can mount the harddrive in order to boot from a floppy...i've booted up lots of macs with bad harddrives (as it's much quicker to check out a harddrive in a mac than in a PC..so if i've got a box of drives i want to see if they work, i do just that).. I've never had a mac not want to boot from floppy 'cuz the harddrive wouldn't mount.. Could your floppy drive or bootdisk be bad?

Incidentally, on your previous post you were wondering how to erase a 'locked' disk..you can't..you have to use either HD SC setup or Drive setup to erase it, or a 'low level'(only in Drive setup..theres no option for that in HD SC Setup) format..if you still can't then there's a good chance that the harddrive is bad (if it's one of those old 40 or 80 meg SCSI's it's very likely)..it often manifests as a 'locked' disk when in fact it's not locked, just shot..same with if it won't mount... If you manage to start doing a low-level format, or just a format (erase) in HD SC setup, and it quits partway through, then the drive's shot for sure... Maybe your local mac shop will give away one to you..those 80 meg drives have no marketable value and the'd probably be happy just to get rid of a couple...
