boot problems

One of our imac when starting up takes you to a screen
that says:
bootr unknown word
failed to boot
Apple imac open firmware 3.0f3
1994-1998
ok
0> boot
when I type boot it works fine, just annoying

to elliminate I reinstalled OSX and it gave me the same
screen. I zapped the pram and now it when I type boot it
says can't open.

I wanted to reimage the machine, but it does not have
firewire and is too large for a CD-Any help, suggestions,
why is it doing this? Thanks in advance
