Hi I have a G3 imac and I recently broke the cd/dvd drive by putting a custom cut disk into it so I have been using an external Lacie cd drive (usb). I am trying to install os X but I it wont boot off the disk and I am wondering if it is a problem with the disk or if its just not possible to install from an external cd drive?

The drive may not be bootable, could also be a bad disk.

You can't boot off an external drive as the system ROM doesn't support external devices.
