When I startup my Mac G4 dual 450, it freezes. When I hit restart I get a blinking question mark over a picture of a floppy disk and then it starts up. However my 2nd hard drive is missing from the desktop, and I cannot access any of its' files. Any advice on how to get my 2nd hard drive to show up?
A blinking question mark over a disk means it cannot find the startup disk That means either something got really messed up on your startup hard drive and you have to reinstall the Mac OS... Or something isn't connected properly in the hardware... Most likely it's the Mac OS got messed up. Could be anything from a virus to a program you installed that messed up...
If you boot from another hard drive, startup disk, or a bootable disk like Norton Utilities, do both Hard drives show up on the desktop? If neither...then check connections on the hardware...
Mostly I just recommend trying the old reinstall of the OS and see how many problems get cleared up. I've had that happen on Macs I've owned. But believe me, better than the probs I've had with Windows boxes I have...constant reinstalls there.
