black box appears around selections

CPU/Ram: 2 GHz G5/1 GB
Model/Manufacturer: iMAC G5
Comment:
whenever i select something on the desktop, or within a
program, a strange black box appears around the selceted
item and stays there until i select something else. does
anyone know what causes this and how to stop it? thanks.

Open your Universal Access Pref pane, and turn VoiceOver
off.
