I just got an old Beige G3 desktop pretty cheap. It didn't have a hard drive, so I stuck a spare 3gig IDE in it. The trouble is, The hard drive origionally came out of a Win98 machine, but it seemed to detect with disk tools fine, and I can read and write to it. I need a boot disk/disk tools disk for 7.5.3 specifically I think, and cannot find one. I have a boot disk for OS 8.1, but I was planning to install OS 7.5.3 (it's free), and it seems that I cannot install 7.5.3 when I'm booting from an 8.1 disk. I couldn't get any boot disks lower then 7.5.3 to boot, and I read that the Beige G3's wont boot from anything lower then 7.5.3. I copied the free image files that Apple provides for OS 7.5.3 to the hard drive of the Mac via my Linux box, and they start fine in the Mac, until I run the Sys 7.5 installer, then it says "The system Software Installer script does not recognize this Macintosh. Please use the origional disks that came with your computer". This is what makes me think it wont let me install because I'm booting from an 8.1 disk. Could somebody please tell me what's going on, what I'm doing wrong, or provide me with a 7.5.3 disk tools boot disk? Thanks, Marshall
