Hey there. I just recently aquired an old
Beige G3. We had it at work, works fine
but they were throwing it out. So I asked if
I could have it, and here I am with a
computer that I don't really know how to
get it online. I have a few questions about
this machine and getting it hooked up to
the internet:Question 1:
It has always been hooked up to the
internet here at work, but through an
Ethernet connection. Funny enough, we
still have the original box, and on it, it says
"Easy internet access...". But, how do you
hook up to a phone connection? I
assume this would mean that a modem
came standard. But, all I see is an
ethernet jack and a round jack that has a
little phone icon next to it. Do I need an
adapter or something?Question 2:
Any idea as to what speed modem came
with this machine. I know it's never been
upgraded, so my guess would 28.8?Question 3:
Would it be best for me to just install a
PCI USB port and then attach a USB
modem? And would it really be that
simple.Sorry if these sound like simple/silly
questions, but any info you can offer
would be a great help.Thanks - J

The round port with the phone icon is for an external
serial modem. Try these companies for a modem;http://www.macresq.com
http://www.sunrem.com
http://www.shrevesystems.com/
You can also try ebay.comUS Robotics modems were very good, just make sure
you get a Mac modem.

Thanks for the info.
So, it's your opinion then that this box
didn't come with an internal modem? I
figured that most comps by 1998 would
have come standard with one?
