Cannot install Backup 3. Says it is on a "locked volume." Mac
support is no help. I appear to have paid a premium for a
facility I cannot use! Any help out there please?

Are you trying to install Backup 3 from an administrator
account?

Try repairing permissions and turning File Vault off if it is
active.

You could also try creating a new admin account and
installing it from there to rule out any problems with your
current admin user account.

Richbot - Backup 3 is part of the .Mac suite of tools
