AVI/Indeo in QuickTime

I have some old avi files, compressed with the Indeo compressor. To play these, I use QuickTime in Classic mode, since Indeo doesn´t exist for OS X. It works fine, until I inflate the movie to double size - then only 6-8 pictures pr. sec (out of 25) are shown.
Why is that? More RAM seems like an obvious solution, but on the other hand - a Win box with a Celeron 500 and 128 MB RAM has no trouble showing the movie in full screen, even directly from a CD. Any theories?
