Comment:

On an OS X 10.4.8 system, if Directory Access, Services,
LDAPv3 (plug-in) has an AD Directory Domain (node)
enabled, and that same node is in the Authentication list,
and the DCs of the forest are not behind a firewall, can an
OS X app (a daemon specifically, in case it matters) pass
an AD (short) account name and password to AD, and, if
authentication is successful, have returned the short
group name -- without having the AD plugin even
enabled?
