Okay, personal preferences aside, one thing to point out...
If you get the MacBook, you can run Windows as well as OS X. The ASUS can't do that.
You might want to also keep an eye on the Apple refurb store. Right now you can get a 2.2 C2D MacBook, but with only 1 GB RAM, for $999. Same warranty as the new machines, and still eligible for AppleCare.
