Appletalk and Network Cards

Comment:
When setting up APPLETALK on my WIN2K server, do any of you MAC peoples know if the Networking Card needs to be APPLETALK compatible? Or will APPLETALK run on any network card?
If so, please specify a brand of card that will work. Thanks

AppleTalk is a networking protocol, just like TCP/IP is a networking protocol.
Protocols are generally hardware-independent; i.e., they're abstracted from the physical setup of the network. TCP/IP works over a variety of media (Ethernet, Token Ring, fiber, DSL, cable modem) without caring what the underlying hardware is, and AppleTalk is no different.

One thing that many people aren't aware of is that AppleTalk in Win2000 Pro exists solely to support AppleTalk printing. It cannot be used for file sharing between Macs & PCs. Check http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;262282 for more details.
Oh, I just re-read the original post and realized that you said "WIN2K server". If it's the actual server OS you're using, then you want Services for Macintosh. Check http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;231625#2 for details on that.
