Apple Software Restore Image

Comment:
When I create an image of Macintosh HD using Diskcopy 6.3.3 and launch Apple Software Restore, it find the created image all right, but says "this image has a missing or outdated checksum resource. please select another image." The diskcopy image mounts fine if you double-click on it - even when it evaluates the Checksum itself. Why does Apple Software Restore complain about it?

Clever one this, Apple use a special piece of software called Installer SDK which runs a script over the image and allows it to be used with the Apple Software Restore application. I guess this is to stop people using ASR as freeware imaging software.

I have a script extra for Disk Copy 6.3.3 that 'post-processes' a disk image to prepare it for use with ASR; e-mail me at michael-c@technologist.com if you're interested.
