Hi again! Is it possible to update my previously mentioned 5500/225 from OS 8.6 to a higher OS? What OS could I update to and where could I downlaod it? thank you very much, again!

apple spec database at apple.com look up your machine and you will be enlightened. You will need to PURCHASE an OS.

You can run anything up to OS 9.1 on the 5500. Check ebay.com. You should be able to find most systems for sale there.

If you want to find good info on old macs, direct your browser of the web to everymac.com They have a rediculous amount of info on every model macintosh.
Summary: Though this is generally unnecessary on the Mac, it is always good to have a backup whenever you upgrade, just in case. :) As for your question, OS 8.6.1 is a good version to upgrade to. Of course...
